Talking Points

Ecclesiastes 3

  1. In your experience, how is the realities of time helpful? How is time frustrating?

  2. From your perspective, how is life moving too quickly or too slowly?

  3. In what ways is discontentment stealing your joy in the current season of life?

  4. “He has made everything beautiful in its time…” (Ecclesiastes 3:11). What would you like for God to make beautiful in your life?

  5. What are you longing for or dreaming about that’s far bigger than you or currently seems to be elusive? How might this longing represent the “eternity” that God has placed in your heart?

  6. Were there difficult times in your life which you did not understand at the time, but as you look back, you can see God’s good purpose or goodness?

  7. What are some ways we can remind each other of God’s goodness, sovereignty, and coming judgment, especially when the world is so divisive and seems out of control?

In closing, read and ponder this prayer:
“May I never live unto myself and unto the world, but unto you and unto eternityL teach me to test my faith, my love and repentance, whether they are well grounded, and if so preserve me continually in fear of you; with all diligence may I proceed on my journey toward the Cannan above, and with all watchfulness await your coming.” Johann Habermann (Lutheran Theologian, 1516-1590)
