CP Group Discussion Questions

  1. Mike read the account from Acts 12 of Peter’s miraculous rescue from prison and the response of the church (who were presently praying for his rescue). What was their response? Can you identify with their response in your own prayer life?
  2. Missiologist David Wells defines kingdom prayer (intercessory or petitionary prayers) as “rebellion against the status quo––the state of the world in its sin and fallenness.” Do you agree, or do you think Wells takes it too far?
  3. Mike observed that Jesus’ kingdom prayers often required awareness, boldness, tenacity, and humility. Do you agree with these four? Would you remove any of these? Would you add anything to these?
  4. Kingdom prayers require boldness because these prayers create a hope and anticipation and put us at risk of being disappointed if our prayers not answered in our desired way or timing. Do you think this risk is worth the reward? Why or why not?
  5. Praying “Your Kingdom come” without “Your will be done” can lead to a cynical, defiant posture toward God. On the flipside, praying “Your will be done” without “Your Kingdom come” can lead to an early resignation. Why is it important that our kingdom prayers have both postures?
  6. Is there a brokenness or injustice that you would like to invite your group to join you in boldly praying for?
