Emotionally Optimistic
Emotions are a gift from God.
Jesus experienced the full spectrum of emotions
• Sadness (Luke 19:41-42)
• Compassion (Matthew 9:36)
• Anger (Mark 3:5)
• Anguish, distress, grief (Matthew 26:36-38)
• Joy (Luke 10:21)
Emotions emerge from what we believe to be true.
A healthy emotion is one responding to the whole truth.
We must tend to our emotions.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. —Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)
We must tend to our emotions.
• What emotion am I feeling?
• What is the perceived truth is behind those emotions?
• Is it the whole truth?
Studying the Bible: What does God want me to know, to feel, and to do?
Don’t be afraid for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged because I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. —Isaiah 41:10
This same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:19
