Day 90 - Next Steps for Serving

Ruby Washington

“Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, and various kinds of tongues.” - 1 Corinthians 12:27-28 NASB

Our reasonable service is to offer our whole selves as a living sacrifice to God (Romans 12:1). First, we must serve God and worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Serving God with all of our heart will lead us to serve others. Secondly, serving is a posture of our heart, not only something we do. Serve in your day to day life. Look for ways to consider others before yourself at your job, at the grocery store, at the coffee shop, etc.

Now, find out how to serve at your local church. Ask a leader at your church how you can be more involved. Identify a need and fill it.

At Discover Life, your next step is to attend Grow. You can fill out a connection card and check off that you would like to attend Grow. From there, you will be introduced to different areas to serve. As always, pray. Pray that God leads you where you need to be.

I do think it’s important to be realistic about how much time you have. You ALWAYS have time to serve, but it may look different in different seasons of your life. If you’re taking care of a sick parent, you are serving. God sees you. Remember, you live to glorify an audience of one, not to check off a box.

Your next step is to serve God and His people.

Next Steps

  • Think about it: What are some practical ways to serve people in your day to day life?

  • Think about it: Considering the season you’re in, could you be utilizing your gifts more in your local church?

  • Action Step: Say this prayer - “Lord, thank you for giving me gifts. I pray that I glorify you in using those gifts. Reveal to me any deception in my life regarding the gifts you’ve given me. Lead me to live a life of service to You and others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
