Life Group Questions – Oct 9th & Oct 10th, 2021

This weekend Pastor Al continued the series on “Setting things in Order” finishing the book of Titus with the topic of “Conduct Becoming of a Believer”.

Pastor Al opened with the statement that we are in the army, the army of God and we have an obligation and instructions to carry out our service.

Pastor Al said “God is sovereign but does not sanction evil” Why? What does scripture tell us about this statement?
What does this mean for us as believers? Read Romans 8:28, why should our confidence be in Christ when evil surfaces and how can we practically respond to this?

The first main topic Pastor Al touched on was submission to authority, both in this world and to God.

We all know as believers to submit to authority (read Romans 13:1). Does your submission to authority in the world and in the church reflect your faith? How so?
Do you believe that when you don’t joyfully obey your boss, government, or pastor, you are not submitting to God?

Next Pastor Al talked about times when we should resist authority.

Is there ever a time we should oppose orders by leadership of the ruling authority?
Do you have or have you ever had instances where you have deemed it “acceptable” to resist authority, when in fact it is not biblical?

In the next section of text, Pastor Al talked about how we are to resist authority when it IS justified.

We are called by God to love our enemies, but also called to resist authority when it tries to supersede Gods word, what does this look like? Why is it so difficult to do?
Read Luke 17:5 What can we learn from the disciples asking Jesus to increase their faith?

Pastor Al finished his message with encouragement for what to do when we realize we need help submitting to authority.

Are we getting caught up by worldly issues and forgetting about our eternal perspective? Are any of your political or social views overshadowing the biblical perspective?
When we inevitably fail at respecting the authority God has placed in our lives and struggle with loving our enemies, what practical things can we do to realign with Gods will?
