DISCIPLESHIP (Part 2 of 3)

Jesse A. Quiroz, Lead Pastor

Good morning! We are so very excited to bring what we pray is a powerful word from God directly to you! A primary focus of today’s talk will be shining a light on the role DOCTRINE has inside of discipleship and how that applies to your life!

What is Doctrine?
Simply put, it’s the set of beliefs of which you live your life by.

Your life will always follow the path your worldview creates for it.

PROVERBS 23:7 NKJV
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

TITUS 1:9 ESV
He (or she) must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught,
so that they may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine …

2 TIMOTHY 4:3 NIV
For the time will come when people will not put up
with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires,
they will gather around a great number of teachers
who say what their itching ears want to hear.

GALATIANS 1:8 ESV
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.

A disciple’s doctrine –> Scripture.

Examples of Paul’s defense of sound doctrine are found below penned to expose the false doctrine of Salvation by Works that was attempting to plague the New Testament church.

EPHESIANS 2:8-9 NIV
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—
and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God
not by works, so that no one can boast.

HEBREWS 8:12 NIV
For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.

Why did the Apostle Paul work so diligently defending sound doctrine?

The answer is simple –> so that believers could not only know sound doctrine, but could also identify and discern the presence false doctrine. This is key for a believer’s life and that key is created via discipleship.

MARK 16:15 NIV
He said to them, “Go into all the world
and preach the gospel (greek: euangelion) to all creation

The primary tool of discipleship is found in example.

1 CORINTHIANS 11:1 NIV
Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

Your example doesn’t need to be a perfect one! Don’t overcomplicate the simplicity of spiritual influence.

1 TIMOTHY 1:15-16 NLT
This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all. 16 But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life.
