Pray that throughout this final lesson on being a servant the Lord helps you in contentment and in bringing glory to His name.

CONTENTMENT IN OUR

1 Timothy 6:1-5
Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

In the beginning, God created them male and female, and equality was established before God. Although we all serve in different roles in life and ministry, we are considered equal in value before the Lord. Job spoke to this here:

Job 31:15
Did not he that made me in the womb

? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

Galatians 3:28
There is neither

nor , there is neither nor , there is neither nor : for ye are all in Christ Jesus.

Throughout the Bible, although God does not prohibit slavery, He does not support it. It was introduced by mankind and

God.

The first question presented to us by Paul is, “How should a Christian slave (employee) act toward their unbelieving master (employer)?

God shows us “how,” and He shows us “why”.

  1. He explains how “Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters of all ,”
  2. He explains why, “that the of God and his doctrine be not .”

The next question presented to us by Paul is, “How should a Christian slave (employee) act toward their believing master (employer)?

He explains, “And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them

they are ; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit.”

1 Timothy 6:3-5
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

A forgery is revealed by what he

and by what he .

CONTENTMENT WITH OUR

1 Timothy 6:6-10
But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Let us make sure that we understand clearly that godliness with contentment is great gain, and not that

is godliness.

Philippians 4:10-13
But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

When we deal with monetary blessings, we must be careful not to allow the fiery arrows of the love of money to not make a direct hit. Because it will cause much sorrow and bring reproach to the name of Christ.

CONTENTMENT IN OUR

1 Timothy 6:11-21
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy; That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate; Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called: Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

Paul addresses four things at the close of this letter to Timothy:
1.

these things of the world
2. after righteousness
3. a good fight of faith
4. onto eternal life

Paul concludes by telling Timothy to keep or guard what is committed to his trust. It is an excellent reminder of what is written here:

2 Timothy 2:2
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

We are servants! We serve because we love the Lord! We do so THANKFULLY, PRAYERFULLY, CAREFULLY, THOUGHTFULLY, COOPERATIVELY, HONORABLY, and CONTENTLY.
