Current Sermon Series: Redefining Greatness: Love God | Love Your Neighbor

Current Sermon Title: Love God With All Your Soul

Today’s Speaker: Steve Bezner

He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. —Matthew 22:37

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will find it. For what will it benefit someone if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will anyone give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will reward each according to what he has done. Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” —Matthew 16:24-28

1. The Bible says your life is your soul. (v. 25)

For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. —1 Peter 2:15-16

You pore over the Scriptures because you think you have eternal life in them, yet they testify about Me. —John 5:39

For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. —Romans 11:36

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. —Colossians 3:17

2. Jesus says we must give up the world to gain our soul. (v. 26)

Discipleship = Obedience.

What if God put you where he did so that you might obey Jesus and teach others to obey Him in that place?

HNW.org/engage is a great place to go and get started. Two weeks from now we will be starting a class on this very topic.

3. Soulful living starts with an encounter with Jesus. (vv. 27-28)
