Ephesians 5:25-33 says:
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
I would like to take the time this morning to introduce you to a family. It is the godly family of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham.
The members of this family are as follows:
- ISAAC: He was a loving son, then a husband and father. We will be discussing him in detail today, but let me introduce you to the others.
- REBEKAH: She was the loyal and dedicated daughter of Laban. Rebekah is the second-cousin of Isaac, but later becomes his wife. She was very beautiful, but needed the Lord in her life. She was unable to have children, and so her and Isaac prayed unto the Lord and He answered their prayers. Which brings us unto the other family members.
- ESAU and JACOB: While these two are different and separate sons, they were twins and is the reason that I’ve introduced them together. We will discuss their roles within this home much later.
My hearts desire over the next few weeks is to walk us through the home and God’s design/purpose for it. We have discussed Adam and Eve’s home a little last week, and we will revisit their home throughout this series, but I am very interested in the home of Isaac.

THE
OF THE HOME
Psalms 127:1 says:
Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
GOD ESTABLISHES
He established order in creation, salvation, redemption, angels and humanity, all the way down to the structure to where each creature is in all of creation. While some may twist this and create a so called, “pecking order”, that would be sinful and an abuse of the scriptures.
THE
Hebrews 5:6 says:
As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
THE
1 Corinthians 15:23 says:
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.
THE
1 Corinthians 14:40 says:
Let all things be done decently and in order.

THE FAMILY OF ISAAC
ISAAC’S BEGINNING WAS
ISAAC’S EARLY OBEDIENCE WAS
Hebrews 11:17-19 says:
By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
ISAAC’S HEART WAS
Genesis 24:63-67 says:
And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done. And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
ISAAC’S
AS THE HEAD OF THE HOME
HE
ESAU
When the sons were born, God had something to say about them each. He declared that the older would serve the younger. Not by God’s choice or design, but by God’s
While he NEVER spoke to their personal salvation, God declared that “two nations” were inside the womb of Rebekah. In the story of Esau and Jacob, God was working to
While God never played favorites, Isaac did! Not only did Isaac fall into this sin, but Rebekah did also.
Genesis 25:27-28 says:
And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob.
HE
HIMSELF
Genesis 26:8 says:
And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.
MEN, look at this response of Isaac…
Genesis 26:9 says:
And Abimelech called Isaac, and said, Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said unto him, Because I said,
HE
HIS BELLY
Genesis 27:1-4 says:
And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I. And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death: Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
Isaac knew the Word that God spoke about the blessings of the younger and the older, but he didn’t care! He was going to do what he wanted to do and it destroys the home.
How will you lead as the “Head of the Home”?
