This weekend Pastor Al preached on keeping our focus on Christ amidst the chaos of life from Acts 21:15-36

Pastor Al talked about the toxicity of disinformation and gossip, explaining its intentions to destroy the truth.

  1. In what ways does gossip and disinformation destroy relationships and trust? How does gossip effect the Church, our witness, and the fellowship? What can you do instead?
    a. In current times, disinformation is being spread all over about all kinds of people. How can we ground ourselves in truth and bring truth into the world with grace and love? How can we apply this to our current times?

Pastor Al discussed how we often run our mouths beyond what the Holy Spirit has spoken into us, relating us to a car that will not shut off even with the ignition.

  1. Why do you think it is so important for us to be quick to listen and slow to speak (James 1:19)? How does this relate to walking in the Spirit and speaking from Him?
    a. Have you spoken beyond what the Holy Spirit has led you to? What is at the root of this sin? What drives us to take things into our own hands?

Pastor Al talks about Paul’s defense against this disinformation and for the truths held within the Law.

  1. How ought we view the Law? How do we walk in the commandments of our Lord and not fall into religiosity? How do we actively seek righteousness without becoming self-righteous?
    a. Read Galatians 2:15-21, Reflect on the meaning of verse 19. What does Paul mean by dying to the Law through the Law? How can this relate to us who are gentiles, sanctified by Christ?

Pastor Al talks about Paul’s humility in buying the sacrifices for the Nazarite vow. He relates this nature to that of Jesus who ate with tax collectors and sinners.

  1. Paul humbles himself and sacrifices what he has for the sake of honoring the Jews accusing him. What does this demonstrate for us about our witness? How far would you go to spread the Gospel of Christ to other cultures, groups, or religions?
    a. How do you bear witness to the Gospel to the world while also walking in holiness and truth? How can you bring people up from their sin and not be dragged down into it? Do you have a personal example of this?

Pastor Al concludes his message by discussing God’s presence amidst our tumultuous times and how God works all things for His Glory.

  1. Discuss how God can use our tribulations for His glory. What is your defense when people ask why God allows suffering? What should be our response to hard times?
