JOSIAH: The No Limit Life pt 3

2 Chronicles 35:1 - 19
1
Then Josiah announced that the Passover of the Lord would be celebrated in Jerusalem, and so the Passover lamb was slaughtered on the fourteenth day of the first month.
2 Josiah also assigned the priests to their duties and encouraged them in their work at the Temple of the Lord.

PASSOVER = celebration of their deliverance from death and freedom found in following God.

: DEMOTIVATING TACTICS WE NEED TO AVOID:
1. AVOID

AND
Fear can be a good motivator in the short term, but it’s difficult for anyone to be successful when they’re consumed by fear.

IT’S NOT LEADERSHIP - IT’S MANIPULATION
LEADERSHIP CAN NEVER BE FOLLOWED IF THERE IS NO TRUST.

FOUR WAYS MANY LEADERS UNINTENTIONALLY CREATE FEAR:

- WE OVERRACT WITHOUT KNOWING ALL THE

-
1 Corinthians 9:25
25
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
- Mastery = strives to compete for the best prize
- Temperate = egkrateuomai = to exercise dominion from within to without. / from root “to be a master of one’s self”
- - It’s self control where your actions are controlled because you focus more on what is inside of you than what is going on outside of you.
- - INNER TRANQUILITY DURING OUTER TURBULANCE.
- - GREATER IS HE THAT’S WITHIN ME THAN HE THAT IS IN THE WORLD - so I must tap within.

- WE CAN BE PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE -
King Ahab - (1 Kings 12) his wife had the dude killed so her husband could have his vineyard.
- - Passive-aggressive speech and behavior are cowardly ways of avoiding conflict. By pretending to be pleasant while inwardly seething with resentment, we fool ourselves into thinking we are peacemakers practicing self-control.
When actually, we are communicating contempt and disapproval without having the courage to openly say so.
- - Social media = a passive aggressive art form… “unfriended” “unfollowed
1. Do I imply guilt when someone has something I can’t have?
Example: “I love your dress. I wish I could afford something like that, but I have to take care of my mother.”
2. Do I give backhanded compliments to mask my jealousy?
Example: “Oh, your new house is cute — for a starter home.”
3. Do I make a point to ignore or behave coldly toward someone with whom I’ve disagreed?
Example: The person strikes up a conversation, but I keep checking my phone or glancing over the person’s shoulder… acting like I don’t want to talk to them.
4. Do I gossip about someone rather than address that person directly?
Example: James was upset that Jerry got the bosses attention. Instead of trying to talk to him he started rumors about Jerry behind his back.
5. Do I try to sabotage someone else’s success when he or she has offended me?
Example: “Oh, I know you’re on a diet, but I couldn’t resist blowing my paycheck on this cake for you.”
6. Do I keep score and make certain that slights and snubs are kept even?
Example: Sue did not invite me to her last dinner, so I sent my party invitations to everyone in the office but her.

WE CAN BE CARELESS WITH OUR POWER -

2. AVOID

OUT CANDY AND PROMISES.
Outside rewards will cheapen internal satisfaction.

- Model motivation. You set the tone for those around you. I hope people see me motivate others. Thank others. Encourage others.
YOU ALWAYS INSPIRE MORE BY YOUR EXAMPLE THAN BY YOUR WORDS.

- Create a culture of appreciation.
YOU MUST NOT JUST TALK ABOUT WHAT’S WRONG BUT CELEBRATE SMALL THINGS THAT ARE RIGHT.

- When all else fails, discipline.
One of the most demotivating things we can do as a leader is consistently accept unacceptable performance. There are ways we can do the offender a favor when we publicly show that the issue has been addressed and resolved.
ALWAYS STRIVE TO DISCIPLINE PRIVATELY, QUICKLY.
When you discipline privately, create a climate of safety. Show them how they are impacting others and how others view them. Communicate to them what specifically needs to change.

3 He issued this order to the Levites, who were to teach all Israel and who had been set apart to serve the Lord: “Put the holy Ark in the Temple that was built by Solomon son of David, the king of Israel. You no longer need to carry it back and forth on your shoulders. Now spend your time serving the Lord your God and his people Israel.
4 Report for duty according to the family divisions of your ancestors, following the directions of King David of Israel and the directions of his son Solomon.
5 “Then stand in the sanctuary at the place appointed for your family division and help the families assigned to you as they bring their offerings to the Temple.
6 Slaughter the Passover lambs, purify yourselves, and prepare to help those who come. Follow all the directions that the Lord gave through Moses.”

TWO DUTIES:
1.
Stop doing all the extra stuff - put the ark in the temple. Focus on serving the people.
2. Help the people to give.

THEIR GOAL WAS TO MODEL GIVING AND SUPPORT OTHER PEOPLE IN THEIR GIVING:

7 Then Josiah provided 30,000 lambs and young goats for the people’s Passover offerings, along with 3,000 cattle, all from the king’s own flocks and herds.
8 The king’s officials also made willing contributions to the people, priests, and Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the administrators of God’s Temple, gave the priests 2,600 lambs and young goats and 300 cattle as Passover offerings.

PRAY | READ | ACT
PRAYING, READING AND ACTING IN FAITH SHOULD MOTIVATE YOU INTO GIVING INTO THE HOUSE.

9 The Levite leaders—Conaniah and his brothers Shemaiah and Nethanel, as well as Hashabiah, Jeiel, and Jozabad—gave 5,000 lambs and young goats and 500 cattle to the Levites for their Passover offerings.
10 When everything was ready for the Passover celebration, the priests and the Levites took their places, organized by their divisions, as the king had commanded.
11 The Levites then slaughtered the Passover lambs and presented the blood to the priests, who sprinkled the blood on the altar while the Levites prepared the animals.
12 They divided the burnt offerings among the people by their family groups, so they could offer them to the Lord as prescribed in the Book of Moses. They did the same with the cattle.
13 Then they roasted the Passover lambs as prescribed; and they boiled the holy offerings in pots, kettles, and pans, and brought them out quickly so the people could eat them.

MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION.
- Motivational leaders push you to do more.
- Inspirational leaders pull your best out of you.

GOD GAVE YOU EMOTIONS -
EMOTIONS SOWED IN THE RIGHT PLACE WILL HELP YOU INSPIRE OTHERS

THREE LEVELS TO HOW YOUR PEOPLE “FEEL”.”

1. Satisfaction: They have the tools and freedom to perform and are recognized and feel noticed.
2. Engagement: They’re part of a team, they have the ability to grow, they’re making a difference or doing something they believe is valuable.
3. Inspiration: They are drawing deep and lasting meaning from their work and performing with purpose and passion.
People who describe themselves as “inspired” are more than twice as productive as people who call themselves “satisfied.”

WE HAVE AN OBLIGATION AS LEADERS TO FOSTER INSPIRATION IN OUR ORGANIZATIONS.

14 Afterward the Levites prepared Passover offerings for themselves and for the priests—the descendants of Aaron—because the priests had been busy from morning till night offering the burnt offerings and the fat portions. The Levites took responsibility for all these preparations.

There was a

and there was an .
- THEY PREPARED and FOCUSSED before they started serving the people.
- THEY TOOK CARE OF THEMSELVES AFTER they served the people

WHEN WE DO NOT TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES:

  • We run ourselves into the ground - emotionally distant, physically exhausted, burning the candle at both ends all the time.
  • We shut people out - internalize the problem, carry it alone, not look for others. “I alone can do what needs to be done”
  • We focus solely on the negative - nothing is getting better, no one really cares, no one is stepping up, when is the next attack, are we even going to make it?
  • We forget about God - we focus on our own abilities and strengths to get us out of issue.

HOW THE PRIESTS TOOK CARE OF THEMSELVES:

  • WORSHIPPED PERSONALLY - they separated themselves to a place to remember and worship God themselves.
  • GAVE PERSONALLY - this wasn’t giving in front of the people.
It was a time of giving from their own hearts and lives.
  • PRAYED PERSONALLY - they went before God and talked to God

15 The musicians, descendants of Asaph, were in their assigned places, following the commands that had been given by David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun, the king’s seer. The gatekeepers guarded the gates and did not need to leave their posts of duty, for their Passover offerings were prepared for them by their fellow Levites.
16 The entire ceremony for the Lord’s Passover was completed that day. All the burnt offerings were sacrificed on the altar of the Lord, as King Josiah had commanded.
17 All the Israelites present in Jerusalem celebrated Passover and the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days.
18 Never since the time of the prophet Samuel had there been such a Passover. None of the kings of Israel had ever kept a Passover as Josiah did, involving all the priests and Levites, all the people of Jerusalem, and people from all over Judah and Israel.
19 This Passover was celebrated in the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign.

NEVER BEFORE HAD THERE BEEN SUCH A PARTY!!!
