Colossians: Day 11
Verses 3:1-4
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Questions:
1. What do these verses teach us about Jesus?
2. What are some earthly things we can tend to focus on?
3. What does it look like / how do we ‘set our hearts on things above?’
4. How does knowing that we will appear with Christ in glory impact our daily lives?
Interpretation
Heavenly thoughts can only come by understanding heavenly realities from scripture. We must pursue a deep knowledge of Christ. A believer’s life is not sustained or lead by someone below them, NO! Christ is above us at God’s right hand, Christ is in a position of honor and majesty. ‘For you died’ - this means a death occurred in the past, in this case, the death of Jesus, where believers were united with Him. Our penalty of sin was paid for by Jesus on the cross, and we arose with Him having a new life hidden away with Him. Hidden with Christ means we have a completely new life, eternal security and protection, a common spiritual life with the Father and Son, and access to all of God’s blessings. Christ is our life, and perfection and glory will be ours when Christ returns.
