Part 1 - Clothed with Power

The Day of Pentecost

1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it

the whole house where they were sitting.
3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4 And with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. —Acts 2:1-4

This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—

who have been called by the Lord our God.” —Acts 2:39 NLT

  • The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a and a gift for every believer. The Holy Spirit is not an !
  • All four gospels show Jesus being as the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, & John 1:33)

The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. —Luke 4:18

  • Not only did the earthly ministry of Jesus with the Holy Spirit coming upon Him, but the gospels with Him promising to send the Holy Spirit upon His church.

1) The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a experience after salvation.

19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and
stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were
glad when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
—John 19:19-22

  • When Jesus breathed on them, they were of the Spirit! But Jesus told these same disciple to wait until they were also in the Holy Spirit.

And don’t get drunk with wine, which is rebellion; instead be filled continually with the Holy Spirit. —Ephesians 5:19

2) into all the world, but for the Promise of the Father – the Holy Spirit.

Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city ]of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” —Luke 24:49

4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you
have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end
of the earth.” —Acts 1:4-5, 8

  • In Luke 4:18 Jesus said the Spirit of the Lord is upon , and in Acts 1:8, He the Holy Spirit will come upon .
  • Jesus was saying my will continue through you in the power of the Holy Spirit.

3) It’s an experience that is referred to as both being , and being .

  • It’s

, and external. Internally, “filled” for transformation. Externally, anointed for service – “upon”.

  • Acts 2:16-18This is what this is

  • Acts 2:32-33, 26 What this means!
  • Acts 2:38-39 – What should we do?
