Sermon Notes
Sermon Title & Text: I Cor 6:1-11; You Were
Sermon Series: 1 Corinthians: The Power of the Cross
Message in a Sentence: What you were before Christ is not what you are now in Christ
• Chapter 1- WHY it begun. Chapter 2 - All Paul knew. Chapter 3 - Really sent for me. Chapter 4 - What God sent them for. Chapter 5 - Sin is not alive. Chapter 6 - The Christ Fix
• Ch5 Paul couldn’t believe sexual immorality was in the church. Ch6 Paul can’t believe Christians sue each other in secular court & allow themselves to be judged by those outside the church. Further indicator of how far church of today has moved from original power & position of authority God gave the church.
• Being in Christ moves us from what we were to what we now are in Him. It’s a radical change. Specifically how we handle grievances and/or represent ourselves while living among and in front of of the unrighteous.
• Church given authority to judge the world and angels. So life issues shouldn’t be a big deal to resolve. Dan 7:22, Mt 19:28
• Christian Distinction: Because of our position in Christ we will inherit the kingdom of God. Those outside faith in Christ won’t inherit God’s kingdom.
And Such Were Some of You:
• List in vv9-10, is of sins that shouldn’t be tied to Christians.
• And such were some of You: We WERE on that list = We aren’t on that list now. Pray, Repent and seek God if that is not true that we aren’t on the list. 1 Cor 12:2, Eph 2:2,3; 4:22, 5:8; Col 3:7; Titus 3:3
• How God changED us:
• You were washed Heb 10:22, Titus 3:5
• You were sanctified 1 Cor 1:2, Jn 17:19, Heb 2:11, 10:10
• You were justified Rom 8:30
• These 3 changes have brought such radical change in us that we can settle disagreements and put away old behaviors that don’t belong to the kingdom of God!
