Sensitivity To The Holy Spirit and Discernment

Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other. Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people. Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil. —1 Thessalonians 5:12-22 (NLT)

Sensitivity To The Holy Spirit

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. —1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NLT)

**Do not extinguish the Spirit’s influence in your life.

How do we extinguish the Holy Spirit’s influence?
1. By not

to His voice
2. By simply His promptings

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. —John 14:16-17 (NLT)

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. —John 14:26 (NLT)

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. —John 16:13 (NLT)

“Holy Spirit, I’m available if you need me today.”

Discernment

Do not scoff at prophecies, but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil. —1 Thessalonians 5:20-22 (NLT)

Discernment – the ability to

; Godly wisdom; the spiritually ability to test spirits.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits —1 John 4:1 (NKJV)

Three primary spirits that underline people’s attitudes, actions and words:

Rule #1: Saturate Yourself In God’s Word

Rule #2: Go Deeper In Your Relationship With The Holy Spirit

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! —Luke 11:13 (NKJV)

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit —Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)
