The Empowerment of the Spirit

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body.”

We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are the habitation of God’s sacred space upon the earth. It matters how we live, behave and love others because the name of God is either glorified or maligned by our interactions with the world.

The transforming, empowering work of the Holy Spirit in my life…

Teaches me to say “NO” to ungodlinessTitus 2:11-12
-Don’t chase the chicken!
-Walk by the Spirit…keep in step with the Spirit – Galatians 5:16

Leads meJohn 16:13; John 8:31-32

Enables mePhil. 2:13

Baptizes and fills me to overflowingActs 2:1-4
-The baptism of the Holy Spirit…
• Empowers believers for the mission. “Make disciples” of all nations (Matt. 28:18-20). The giving of a spiritual language was an inclusive prophetic sign (Acts 2:5-13).
• It gives us the power needed to affect change wherever we go…Peter and John and the crippled beggar (Acts 3).
• It is an overflowing fountain that brings joy (John 7:38).
• It never runs out and never runs dry. We can continually be “being filled” (Eph. 5:18).

Take Aways:
-Don’t chase the chicken…Just say “NO!”
-Walk by the Spirit…follow the Spirit’s lead
-Allow the Spirit to transform your will and actions
-Ask the Father to baptize you with the Holy Spirit
