37Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ —Matthew 22:37-39 NIV

How does God respond to the rough parts of my life?
Peter Denies Jesus
54…Peter followed at a distance. 55And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.” —Luke 22:54-59 NIV
He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know this man you’re talking about.” —Mark 14:71 NIV
60…Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. —Luke 22:60-61 NIV
9But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. —1 Peter 2:9-10
