.

1. The First Christmas Harvest (Lk. 2:1-20)

1) Prophecy

1] Son of Mary (Lk 2:7; cf. Gal. 4:4; Gen. 3:15; Isa. 7:14)

  • Jesus is the of the woman that was prophesied to crush the head of the serpent.
  • As the Son of Mary, Jesus was fully human, but He was not the son of any man.

2] Son of God (Lk 2:11; cf. Gal. 4:4; Gen. 3:15; Isa. 9:6; Phil. 2:6-7)

  • Jesus is the Son of God (deity) given for the sin of mankind.

2) Praise

1] Angelic (Lk 2:13-14)

  • For the 1st time ever, angels worshipped and that which was a part of creation (God incarnate).
  • The angels praised God for the plan of redemption (peace on earth, good will toward men).

2] Shepherds’ (Lk 2:16, 20)

3) Proclamation (Lk 2:10-11, 17)

  • On that first Christmas night the proclamation went forth – a Savior was born.
  • The angels proclaimed the Savior’s birth.
  • The shepherds proclaimed what had been made known unto them.

  • The first Christmas is what we know as the Christmas story – the birth of the Savior, Jesus, the son of Mary, the Son of God.

  • Christmas is a part of the first advent of Christ (i.e. His first coming), but the first advent is not only about the birth of Jesus. It is also about the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

  • No one is saved because they put faith in the

of a Savior. They are saved because they put their faith in the , burial and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus. (cf. John 12:23-24)

2. The Fulfillment Of Christmas Harvest (Gal. 4:4-7)

1) Redemption (v. 5)

  • Gal. 3:13 – Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the Law.
  • What is the curse? If you don’t keep everything under the law, you break all the law and are punishable by the penalty of death.

  • Redeemed – to

for the purpose of setting free.

  • We have been set free from the curse of the law (the penalty of death).

2) Reception (v. 5)

  • Reception of what? Adoption
  • Adoption – to be placed as a with full right and privileges of sonship.

3) Regeneration (cf. Rom. 8:17, John 3:3, 5, 7)

  • Not only are we placed into the family of God, but we are also into the family of God.
  • Regeneration is what Jesus meant when He told Nicodemus “You must be born again.”
  • With regeneration comes the indwelling of the Spirit. God’s Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.

4) Reservation (Gal. 4:7; cf. Rom. 8:17; 1 Pet.1:5-6)

Bottom line: The Christmas harvest is the that comes forth from the death of the of the woman.

  • The Christmas harvest are the souls that are saved because that tiny babe, the seed of the woman, the son of God, went to the cross, died, was buried, and raised to life again.
