INTRODUCTION

In week one of our At the Movies series we look to the movie 42 to help us see that God has created us for a greater purpose, to live out the message of the Gospel in a world that desperately needs it.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. If living out the Gospel is the purpose of our lives, in what ways can we better fulfill that purpose i our every day life?
  2. Has there ever been a moment when you almost gave up, but you persevered and made it through? What happened? What did God do in you and through you during that trial?
  3. What has God done for you that can fuel your faith when you face difficult times?

MOVING FORWARD

Your purpose is more than just your accomplishments. In fact, God cares less about what you do than He does about who you are while you do it. Your purpose is to live out God’s image, His story of love and grace to a hurting world. Keep your focus on Him, lean into His word and listen to the voices around you that will lift you up and encourage you to keep your focus on Jesus. Doing that will help you persevere in the difficult times and live out the greater purpose for which you were created.

CHANGING YOUR MIND

Hebrews 12:1–3 (NLT): Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. 3 Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.
