Why Missions?

Philippians 4:11-23; Mark 16:15

It’s been said “a church without missions is a church without a mission.”

In Philippians 4 Paul commends the Philippians for their faithfulness in supporting his mission work. He praises their consistency and their willingness to sacrifice so others could hear the gospel.

WHY SHOULD WE BE MISSION MINDED?

1. WE ARE MISSION MINDED BECAUSE IT IS

.

The Philippian church adopted Paul as their missionary and supported him.

God takes care of his servants through Christians like us.
He takes care of his missionaries through people like us.

The command is to go into the world.

    Matthew 28:19-20

“…take nothing for your journey, neither staves, or script, neither bread, nor money, neither have two coats a piece.” Luke 9:3

The responsibility for mission support is the Christian.

We may not think we can give much. But when all of us give together we become like snowflakes that can stop traffic.

We are God’s occupational force in the world. We are not a mantle piece for conversation but a force for reconciliation.

2. WE ARE MISSION MINDED BECAUSE WE HAVE .
We don’t have to worry about doing without

God our giving.

“For whoever shall give a cup of cold water to drink in my name, because you belong to Christ, I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.” Mark 9:41

Mary of Bethany anointed the feet of Jesus. It amounted to at least one year’s wages.
Matthew 26:23 indicate that Jesus noticed it, appreciated it, and recorded it.

God our giving.

WHAT DO WE BASE OUR GIVING ON?

1. We give based on his

not ours.

Hebrews 11:1 gives us the definition for faith. We are to live by faith and we are to give by faith.

2. We give based on our of the Lordship of Jesus.

Jesus told Peter to feed his sheep if he loved him. In other words, he said, “Live like you love me.”

God talks more about money than anything else in the Bible because sacrificial giving reflects our commitment to Christ.

CONCLUSION:

We need to be willing to go. “How shall they hear without a preacher?”
We have witnessed a young lady from our church surrendering her life for ministry. But surely there are more.

God is still calling laborers into his vineyard.
Young people: God is still calling the young to missions

We need to be willing to give. “How shall they preach unless they be sent?”
Surely we can send them.

We need to be willing to pray. Pray that God will send laborers into his field.

We have a job to do, let’s do it.
We have a Savior that is worth sacrificing for. Let’s sacrifice.
Let this church continue to be mission minded….and more.
