Leadership

Big Idea: The leadership of Jesus is only as good as my willingness to follow.
Big Question: Where does Jesus want to lead me?
Main Scripture: Psalm 23:2-3

Where does Jesus want to lead me?
1.) He wants to lead me to rest

He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. —Psalm 23:2

  • 60% of U.S. adults, and 74% of parents said they sometimes felt too busy to enjoy life.

  • 1/3 of all children said they always felt rushed.

For many of us the great danger is not that we will renounce our faith. It is that we will become so distracted and rushed and preoccupied that we will settle for a mediocre version of it. We will just skim our lives instead of actually living them. —John Ortberg

Hurry is the greatest enemy of spiritual life in our day. You must ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. —Dallas Willard

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” —Matthew 11:28

This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. —Isaiah 30:15

Our frenetic lifestyles fight against the very comfort that God paradoxically wants to give us. The reason for that is because we think we’re in charge. He wants me to operate from rest. —Crawford Loritts

What do I allow in my life that is keeping me from the rest You want to provide?

The Christian life has two elements in it, the contemplative (rest) and the active (work), and both of these are richly provided for. The second part of a vigorous Christian’s life consists in gracious activity. We not only think, but we act. We are not always lying down to feed, but are journeying onward toward perfection. —The Treasury of David Commentary

Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. 13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. —Philippians 2:12-13
