“No one is more influential in your life than you are because no one talks to you more than you do.” —Dr. David Tripp

“The most important conversations you’ll ever have are the ones you’ll have with yourself. You wake up with them, you walk around with them, you go to bed with them and eventually you learn to act on them. Whether they are good or bad.” —- David Goggins

Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23 (CEV)

More than anything you guard, protect your mind, for life flows from it.

Romans 8:5-6

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.

  4. Mean Talk

1. Identify the broken soundtracks

Is it true?

“The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.”
Proverbs 12:12

Is it helpful?

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.
Ephesians 4:31

Is it kind?

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.
Colossians 3:12

2. Replace the broken soundtracks

So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.

But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
1 Samuel 30:4,6

The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. - Psalm 103:8

But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. - Psalm 86:15

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. - Psalm 145:8

And He passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness…” - Exodus 34:6

“The problem with the internal voices we hear is that we want a switch. We think there is a switch out there and if we can just find it, we can turn off the background noise completely. We only have to do it one time and we’ll never hear it again. It’s not a switch though. It’s a dial.” —David Thomas

3. Repeat over and over

“A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
Galatians 6:7-8

Negative Filtering

God, by your power I take every thought captive and make it obedient to the truth of Christ. Because you are good, I choose to think on what’s good, right, true and helpful and worthy of praise. As I trust in you, your peace will guard my heart, soul, and mind.

Relational Cynicism

With God’s help, I will get rid of all skepticism and bitterness. I choose to believe the best about others and be kind, compassionate and loving. I will love and forgive others as Jesus has loved and forgiven me.

Absolute Thinking

As Jesus loved and accepted me, I will love and accept others. Rather than being called to always be right, I am called to always be loving. Rather than just making a point, I choose to make a difference. In humility, I choose to love others above myself.

Mean Talk

I am a son/daughter of the God who created the universe, who spoke everything into existence, yet you know my name. Since before the world was created, you have loved me and you have planned for me. You will give me everything I need to fulfill your plan for my life and you will never leave me nor forsake me. You are a good father who loves me forever.
