Is It True?

What if God’s word is true?

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.” —(2 Peter 3:10, NASB)

If God’s word is actually true, there is something coming unlike any other catastrophe in the history of the world. Even greater than a world-wide flood. The fear and gloom of the destruction felt on 9-11-2001 can’t began to compare with the fear and terror which is to come.

What if we would have known about the coming attack at Pearl Harbor? What if the passengers who boarded those jets on 9-11 and those who entered the twin towers that morning, knew of the terrorist’s plot for that day? What if every tragedy came with a warning? Without fail, it would provoke us to action. It would deliver us from certain calamity.

“Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness?” —(2 Peter 3:11, NASB)

If God’s word is true, then why aren’t we talking about it? Why aren’t we preparing for it? Why are so many of us consumed by the things of this world. Why do we live as if nothing is going to happen? We say we believe the Bible, but it seems to have no affect on our daily lives. We’re too busy living to prepare for our dying.

“Only when we are prepared to die, can we truly live.” —Pastor, Anthony J. Shetley

Jesus shared a story concerning a man, who, by all accounts, lived a successful life. He dedicated and invested his life into his work and it paid off. He finally came to a place that many of us desire to be. He had more than enough to provide him with a thriving retirement. He thought to himself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!” —(Luke 12:19, NLT)

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?” —(Luke 12:20, NLT)

My friend, If God’s word is true, and I choose to believe it is, we must be wise in how we are living. Over and over again, the Bible warns us and instructs us to live with an eternal perspective. This world and everything in it is passing away. We are passing away over into eternity.

If you believe God’s word to be true, how will your faith affect your life today? How will your faith affect your plans for the future?

““LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” (Think about this for a moment) —(Psalm 39:4–5, NLT)
