If their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? Romans 11:15

…have they not heard? Romans 10:18

Not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” —Romans 10:16
Who has believed our message? He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. —Isaiah 53:1,3,5

Romans 10:17; John 6:63; Psalm 19:1,4
Romans 1:20; Ecclesiastes 3:11

…did (they) not understand? Romans 10:19

But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says, “I will make you jealous by that which is not a nation, by a nation without understanding will I anger you.” Then Isaiah is so bold as to say, “I have been found by those who did not seek Me; I have shown Myself to those who did not ask for Me.” But of Israel He says, “All day long I have held out My hands to a disobedient and contrary people.” —Romans 10:20,21

Isaiah 65:2-13; Psalm 139:23,24; James 4:6

…has God rejected His people? Romans 11:1

…they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be! If their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? —Romans 11:11,12,15

Romans 11:1-10; Ezekiel 37:11-14; Daniel 12:1-3; Zechariah 13:1,8,9

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. We’ve often heard “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” But Paul then went on to say that although Israel heard the Word most did not have faith. What more does it take to have faith than just hearing?

2. If the salvation of the Gentiles is supposed to move the Jews to jealousy, why do we seldom see signs of that happening?

3. Paul’s goal as an apostle to the Gentiles was not just to win Gentiles but to win Jews who saw the joy and peace and love Gentile Christians experienced as they embraced the Jewish Messiah. Who was the last person you tried to lead to Christ? How can we win others?
