Disciples Respond to God’s Call

Disciples believe that God took human form as Jesus Christ and that He is present today through the work of the Holy Spirit and evident in the actions of believers.

[2Co 5:20 ESV] 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

3 Responses to God’s call:
1. Jonah: Here I am. I’m Not Going
[Jon 1:1-3 ESV] 1 Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.” 3 But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD.

2. Moses: Here I am, Send someone else.
[Exo 3:10 ESV] 10 Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”

3. Isaiah: Here I am, Send Me
[Isa 6:8 ESV] 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

What do you need to fully surrender to God?
1. A genuine experience with the presence of God.
[Isa 6:1 ESV] 1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.

2. A genuine awareness of your sinfulness.
[Isa 6:5 ESV] 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”

  1. A genuine understanding of God’s Grace
[Isa 6:6 ESV] 6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.

[Isa 6:8 ESV] 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”
