Doctrinally-Devoted, Mission-Guided

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all —Eph. 4:1-6

Introduction

Our Series Focus: Six reasons why the Biblical church is irreplaceable!

So far: the Biblical Church is

  1. Glory – Passionate
  2. Word – Centered
  3. Spirit – Reliant
  4. Personally – Connected

Reason Number Five:

Because it’s the only place on the planet where you can be

to and protected by the .

It's a Doctrinally – Devoted Place.

What does this mean?

A Biblical church is a place where people know

and upon the teaching of the Bible.

Where is this in the Bible?

1.In the pattern of the Bible
3.In the priority of the church
5.In the peril of the church

I appeal to you therefore, brothers,[a] by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship —Romans 12:1

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery —Galatians 5:1

Let brotherly love continue —Hebrews 13:1

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. —Acts 2:42

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds[a] and teachers,[b] 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,[c] to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, —Eph. 4:11-15

Why does it matter?

  1. It means Biblical authority is as important as . Even more so.
  2. It means growing deep is as important as . Maturity vs. numbers.

22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ —Matt. 7:22

9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; —Col. 1:9-10

and people proclaiming the Gospel and with a vision for the limitless Lordship of Christ!

Where is this in the Bible?

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. —Acts 1:8

Why does it matter?

  1. It’s the only responsibility of the church that has a ”sell by” date__ (it’s the only thing on the list we can’t do in heaven.)
  2. It’s the in the Christian life to lose.

2 “‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. 3 I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. 4 But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. —Rev. 2:2-5
