ICEBREAKER: What do you think of when you hear the word “peace”?
Read Hebrews 2:14
The fear of death can look different for each person. For some, it is worry over health issues; for others, it is worry about finances. It can also be tied to a specific relationship. What do you tend to worry about, and how might that worry be connected to a fear of death? What does this scripture say the fear of death does to our lives? If Jesus rose from the dead to set us free from the fear of death, how can we live in the power of that resurrection instead of the slavery of fear?
Read Philippians 4:6-7
How does Scripture say we gain peace within ourselves? What does a heart and mind guarded by peace look like? Have you ever known someone who is guarded by the peace of God? Tell us about them.
Read 2 Timothy 2:24-26
This passage begins with several guidelines for “the Lord’s servant”, some of which may come easier than others. Which of these traits is most natural for you? Which is hardest for you? What does it mean that God “grants” repentance? How does that inform our perspective as we “instruct” those who oppose us? What is the overall tone of this passage, and what does that tell us about the way we treat others?
