• Further Explanation of the Exceeding Greatness of His Power

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
{Ephesians 2:8}

    • "For" - further explanation of the exceeding greatness of His power
        • Further explanation of what He did for His great love wherewith He loved us

    • "by grace are ye saved through faith"

        • Reference of Eph. 2:5, 1:7

        • His grace provided for it, His great love frame it, His great power worked it

        • "by grace" 
            • "that not of yourselves" (:8)
            • "not of works" (:9)
            • Rom. 3:24; 5:15, 17, 20-21

            • He first gives (more blessed to give than to receive)

            • Grace of Christ - provision

            • Grace - application

        • "through faith"

            • Non-meritorious response to His grace

            • Only activity compatible with His grace

        • "are ye saved"

            • Saved from what?
                1. Dead in trespasses and sins - quickened by the Spirit
                2. Walk
                    1. Course of this world
                    2. Prince of the power of the air
                    3. Spirit that now worketh
                    4. Lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and mind
                3. By nature children of wrath

            • Saved how?
                1. His word of truth - gospel of your salvation
                2. Believed - saved and sealed
                3. Quickened - from deadness
                4. Raised - from the world and spirit
                5. Seated - from the prince of the power of the air
                6. Ages to Come - not wrath

                • Riches of His grace is being before Him in love - redemption some of 
                that grace

        • "and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:"

            • "and that not of yourselves:" - Not by our own strength, might, or power, 
            but by the exceeding greatness of His power

            • "gift of God" - not earned, worked for, or compensated
                • Promise - Eph. 1:13, 3:6
                • Promise unto His purpose

        • The frame of His good works - they are that which are His that we need to 
        believe first

**Not of works, lest any man should boast.
{Ephesians 2:9}

    • "not of works" - the salvation is not of our works

    • "lest any man should boast" - we can glory in the Lord, but we cannot boast 
    because of grace

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath
before ordained that we should walk in them.
{Ephesians 2:10}

    • "For we are His workmanship"

        • Rom. 1:20 - "things that are made"
        • Right hand - His handiwork
        • 2 Cor. 4:6ff

    • "created" - aorist tense (not simply past tense - past, present, future

    • "in Christ Jesus" - the second member of the Godhead, made of the seed of the 
    woman, took on flesh, crucified, raised, revived, and ascended.

        • The work of God in Christ Jesus to have that which is new and contrary to 
        Adam to be able to create and work according to. 

    • "unto good works"

        • Not only what He will shew toward us
        • That which we should walk in
        • We don't generate them, make them up
