Structure

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

14 “Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.”
Ephesians 4:11-16 NIV

APOSTLES

Apostles are called by God for the purpose of establishing the body of Christ with truth through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Acts 2:42-43
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.”

As a spiritual gift, an “apostle” refers to one sent on a mission, comparable to a missionary or church planter.

They were personally informed by Jesus, and they modeled the responsibility of answering only to Him for all of Christ’s followers. (See Mark 6:30; Acts 1:21-22; Romans 1:1; Ephesians 2:20; Hebrews 3:1)

The church is built on the

of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the Lord and Master.

Prophets

People to whom God made known a message, or sermon, for his people that was appropriate to their particular need or situation. (See Acts 11:27; 1 Corinthians 12:10)

The Prophet, then, is the function of the modern-day

.

Evangelists

While some of the other gifted people helped the church grow through the spiritual development of baptized believers, evangelists were spiritually gifted to reach out to unbelievers encouraging repentance and leading them to

, increasing the number of people in the church. (See Acts 21:8; 1 Corinthians 1:17)

Pastors and Teachers

Pastors and teachers alike, are those who provide

– spiritual counsel, guidance, and prayerful support in crisis - and from the Scriptures with a shepherd’s heart. (See 1 Timothy 3:2)

The Storehouse goal: to and for growth

The Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, and Pastors and Teachers are “to equip His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:12-13).

Ephesians 4:14-16
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.

15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.

16 From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows, and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
