Pastor Isaiah Lewis
September 20, 2020

Economically-dependent or socially-devalued NT saints in less-than-ideal circumstances should delight in decorating the gospel with their works.

  1. Explanation: Does the Bible promote slavery?(various passages)
    A. God’s

    is unfolding in Scripture.
    B. God’s for slavery is not approval of slavery.
    C. God’s speaks clearly on the equality of all humans. (Genesis 1:27-28, Job 31:13-15).
    D. God’s is subversive to slavery (Colossians 3:11, Philemon).

  2. Exposition: What did God require of first-century believing slaves? (Titus 2:9-10, c.f. Ephesians 6:5-8, 1 Timothy 6:1-2, 1 Peter 2:18-19, Colossians 3:22, 1 Corinthians 7:21)
    A. Don’t be subversive; be

    .
    B. Don’t be lazy; work .
    C. Don’t be argumentative; pursue .
    D. Don’t hold back; be in all your dealings.

  3. Application: What does God require of economically-dependent and socially-devalued saints in any age?
    A. As you work for the benefit of those around you, make pleasing God your main priority.
    B. As you engage in conversation with others, remember that arguments rarely reflect the gospel of peace.
    C. As you lament the immorality, division, and unrest in our country, remember that God has called you to adorn the gospel through good works; he has not called you to transform society or save your country.

Crosspoint Crossings

The mission of Crosspoint Bible Church can be summed up in three word: Worship. Connect. Thrive. Let’s use these as a grid for applying what we have learned individually and corporately.

Worship: Believers are those who seek to bring glory God the Father through exaltation of the Son in the power of the Spirit.

Connect: Believers are called to live in community with one another for the glory of God.

Thrive: Believers have been saved by God so that Jesus Christ is exalted in their progressive Christlikeness now.
