Livin’ On A Prayer

What are some of your favorite 80’s songs?

If you could see one 80’s band in concert, which one would you choose?

Study

Read Psalm 142
What is the overall tone of this Psalm? How does David express his emotions and struggles? What can we learn from this? How does David’s example encourage us to bring our struggles and burdens to God?

What does it mean to “pour out” your complaint to God?

In verse 4, David writes, “Look to my right and see; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life.” Have you ever felt similarly? How did you overcome or address those feelings?

In verse 5, David says, “I cry to you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’” What can we learn from his example of seeking God’s presence and relying on Him in times of distress?

What’s Next

“Who you run to matters more than what you’re running from.” Who are some of the people that you “run to” when you are scared? What does it look like for you to “run to” God?

Chad said, “The presence of trouble doesn’t equal the absence of God.” Why do you think the enemy wants us to believe that God isn’t there when we experience trouble? How do we make sure we don’t believe that lie?

“We are closest to God when we’re real with Him.” What does it mean to be real with God?
