Current Sermon Series: Redefining Greatness: Love God | Love Your Neighbor

Current Sermon Title: Greatness Redefined

Today’s Speaker: Kirk Gentzel

“Jesus answered, “The most important is Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love
the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your
strength. The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater
than these.”” —Mark 12:29-31

We are carefully crafted. I am not the Maker but the Maker has made me for something..
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared
ahead of time for us to do.” —Ephesians 2:10

We are dearly loved. I can trust that I matter because my Maker loves me.
“See what great love the Father has given us that we should be called God’s children — and
we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it didn’t know him.” - 1 John 3:1 CSB
Sally Lloyd Jones, “They were lovely because He loved them.” —Jesus Storybook Bible

We are meticulously cared for. I can rest in the fact that the Maker will care for me.
“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called
according to his purpose.” —Romans 8:28

““Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or
about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than
clothing? Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your
heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add one
moment to his life span by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the
wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even
Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. If that’s how God clothes the grass
of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much
more for you — you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat? ’ or ‘What will we
drink? ’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your
heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his
righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about
tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” —Matthew 6:25-34

1. Actions follow Identity.

2. Limitlessness is a reordering of our identity

In our modern age, one of the greatest acts of self-care is the acknowledgements of
limitations and establishment of sensible boundaries.

  1. Practice Sabbath as resistance to limitlessness
  2. Read Boundaries by Cloud and Tounsend and put it in practice
  3. Care for your Body
