Why Identity Matters (1 Peter 2:9-12)

Icebreaker - When you were a teenager or college student, what were your hopes and dreams concerning your future?

Do you tend to think of yourself optimistically, pessimistically, or somewhere in between? Why?

Which of Peter’s seven identity statements in 1 Peter 2:9-11 resonate most with you (chosen race, royal priesthood, holy nation, people for his own possession (God’s people), beloved, sojourners, and exiles)?

How should God’s declared identity of his people influence how we interact with each other and our neighbors?

According to 1 Peter 2:12, why do you think our interaction among unbelievers is so important?

Discuss how your current interaction with unbelievers (neighbors, co-workers, classmates, etc) may be perceived by them as valuable, hurtful, or apathetic?

How might abiding with God through prayer, Bible reading, community, and good works change you and those around you for the better?
