TEACHING NOTES
Uncertainty is nothing new. Times are uncertain, but God is not and the only thing that is certain is uncertainty.
In the midst of uncertainty, God is still certain so we do not have to be afraid
Can I trust God? Ultimately the answer is YES!
If you can embrace the truth that, in the midst of uncertainty, God is certain, it allows you to embrace uncertainty with the certainty of knowing that God is still in control.
TALK IT OVER
INTRODUCTION
Nearly every story you read in the Bible was written in or describes times of great uncertainty. In our current times of uncertainty, how can we know God is certain? Does he really still have the whole world in His hands? The truth is, that uncertainty is nothing new. Times are uncertain, but God is not.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. When have you felt the most uncertain in your life?
2. Describe a time you may have allowed your uncertainty and fear to keep you from doing something you probably should have done?
3. What is a favorite story or passage from scripture? Where can you see the uncertainty of those involved in that story? How did God address their fear?
4. Where can you see God’s certainty in the stories of Joseph, Moses, David, or the early followers of Jesus?
5. Read Romans 8. Where else can you see Paul assuring us that God is certain even in our times of uncertainty?
6. How can you approach future times of uncertainty differently because of what you have heard today?
MOVING FORWARD
One thing is certain, we will always face times of uncertainty. Even in the midst of the uncertainty of our lives, God is certainly with us. Things catch us off guard and surprise us, creating times of uncertainty in our lives, but God is never caught off guard and is always certain.
CHANGING YOUR MIND
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. —Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
