Miracles are Messy
46 Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.
Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”
50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.
51 So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”
52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road. —Mark 10:46 - 52
1. Jesus sees you and your mess in the middle of the multitude.
Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of
Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat
by the road begging. —Mark 10:4629 Are not two sparrows sold for a [a]copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. —Matthew 10:29 - 31
2. Someone needs to hear that Jesus healed your mess.
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son
of David, have mercy on me!” —Mark 10:4735 Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. 36 And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. 37 So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. 38 And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” —Luke 18:35 - 38
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. —Revelation 12:11
3. Religion will always tell you to be quiet because your mess makes them uncomfortable.
Then many warned him to be quiet; but
he cried out all the more, “Son of David,
have mercy on me!” —Mark 10:48But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. —Matthew 23:13
4. Jesus stops when we cry out in desperation.
So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.” —Mark 10:49
The church has to stop making Jesus a moving target.
5. At some point, we have to let go of the comfort of our mess to get to the miracle of Jesus.
And throwing aside his garment, he
rose and came to Jesus. —Mark 10:501 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. —Hebrews 12:1 - 2
6. When we ask Jesus to fix our mess, we are asking Him to be Him, and He will always be Him.
—Mark 10:51 - 52The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed. —Luke 4:18
