- What brings you more stress–family, job, health, or world events?
- “Disappointment happens when there is a gap between our expectations and reality.” Share some examples of this from your life.
- Which of the four unhelpful ways of dealing with disappointment do you tend to use? Why?
- Read Genesis 4:2-12. What examples of disappointment are implied in the situation? How was disappointment dealt with? Give examples of desire, demanding, and destruction.
- Read Luke 24:13-27. Why were the two disciples disappointed? What were they hoping for?
- What was Jesus’ response? How did Jesus correct their expectations?
- Read Acts 1:3-11. What were the disciples hoping for? What was Jesus’ response?
- How did the early church disciples respond to Jesus’ instruction? (v. 12-14) What does their response teach us about dealing with our disappointment?
- Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-10. How did Paul respond and deal with his disappointment?
- Share with your group any examples of “if only” attitudes and pray together for the strength and courage to take hold of “what is”.
