“Serving Selflessly” (Nehemiah 7; 11)
COMPELLED to SERVE
The wall was completed, but the city of Jerusalem needed people within the walls to create new life. While some of the Jews were forced to move back into the city, there were some people who were “internally moved” by God to move. How does the concept of being “compelled” apply to our lives today?
We’re
God
Compelled to serve…
…the
…the
…through
…through
We might be
will last
Discussion Questions
Getting Started
- What compels you to serve? Why and where do you serve? If you don’t really serve anywhere, then why not? What do the words of Jesus mean to you in Mark 10:45?
Digging Deeper
Read about “conviction” (John 16:8; 1 Th 1:5; Rom 14:22; Heb 11:1; 2 Tim 3:16; Acts 2:37). When is the last time you have been convicted? Is your heart open to the Holy Spirit speaking to you with His still, small voice?
Read 1 Corinthians 12:1-31. Read it again. Read it every day this week. What is the main theme? You are a part of the local body of believers. You have a gift to be used within that body. Are you involved in bringing spiritual health to your church?
Meditate on “singing” (Eph 5:19; Heb 2:12; Ps 40:3; 57:7; 98:1; 101:1; 105:2; 150:1-5; Col 3:16; Rev 14:3; 2 Ch 5:13). Has God gifted you with any musical talents? Are you using those musical gifts for the glory of God?
Applying the Word to Life
Are you serving in at least one of these four areas: church, lost (unbelieving), prayer, music? If not, why not? How can you step up in an area this year? Decide right now that you will serve God in a higher capacity than ever!
Does your life point others to Jesus? Are you more concerned about making a name for yourself or making God’s name famous?
