(How To Save A Good Chunk of $100 Billion)
2001: “Depression and distress cost Canadians at least $14.4 billion in 1998”…
2001: “Antidepressant use skyrockets in Canada”…
2011: “The combined economic impact of direct cost and lost productivity due to poor mental health is well in excess of $50 billion per year”…
2022: Most experts agree: It is well over $100B now.

God’s Word can help us save a large chunk of the $100B that poor mental health costs us. God has an answer, not only for the symptoms of depression, but also for the root causes. Luke 4:18-19 is a great start:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor and healing for the broken-hearted. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Jesus Identifies 5 Symptoms Of Depression Here:
Good News For The Poor Feeling

Healing For The Brokenhearted Feeling
Recovery Of Sight For The Blind Feeling
Release For The Oppressed Feeling
Jubilee Feeling

Winning In The Battle Against Depression…

1) Get

Healing For The Brokenhearted
If we don’t deal with our pain, our pain will deal with us…

THE BIG 4 THAT LEAD TO A BROKEN HEART:
Issues With

Dysfunction Psalm 27:10; Psalm 68:5,6
Issues With Abandonment Hebrews 13:5.
Issues With People Rejection Isaiah 49:14-16
Issues With Protection Abuse Psalm 136 - “…His love endures forever” times 26!

2) Get

Freedom For The Prisoners

Hebrews 1:9 Where freedom goes, joy flows! A major cause of depression is sin. To win in the battle against depression, we need to Get Free:
Get Free Of

Hebrews 12:1 - When we get free we get happy!
Get Free Of Forgiveness frees Matthew 18:21-35.
Get Free Of Let’s see the incredible forgiveness that was extended to us in Christ – Psalm 103:12; Romans 8:1; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 10:14.

3) Get

Recovery Of Sight For The Blind

Ephesians 2:10 “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Happy people are busy people. John 4:34. Where there is no vision, people perish Proverbs 29:18. When purpose walks in, pain walks out 2 Timothy 1:6,7; Psalm 139:13-18

4) Get

Release The Oppressed

Psalm 147:1 “…How good it is to sing praises to our God…” Praise is an issue of focus and faith Hebrews 11:6. When worship consumes us, wellness completes us.
Isaiah 61:3 – “…a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair…” Luke 4 actually quotes from Isaiah 61:1-3:
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness…”

The Top 5 Benefits Of Praise & Worship:
A) Attitude Adjustment Psalm 3
B) Inclusive Intimacy Psalm 100; Psalm 22:3
C) Vision & Voice 2 Kings 3:13-16; Psalm 95:1-7
D) Winning Warfare Psalm 149
E) Depression Decrease Isaiah 61:1-3. We trade despair for a garment of praise.

5) Get

A Crown Of Beauty Instead Of Ashes

Isaiah 61 Choose: Beauty or Ashes? Mental health is a choice. Resilience is not a gift, but a growth.
Happiness is a conscious choice, not an automatic response Mildred Bathel
A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes Hugh Downs
Happiness is an inside job Wally “Famous” Amos
Happiness depends upon ourselves Aristotle
The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts Marcus Aurelius
Rejoice in the Lord always! I will say it again: Rejoice! Paul in Philippians 4:4.

To rejoice is a choice! The apostle Paul is a great example of this. The entire book of Philippians is written in a prison and yet it is the “joy book” in the New Testament. 15 times we read of rejoicing! Happiness is a choice!

6) Get

The Oil Of Joy Instead Of Mourning

The Oil Of Joy Or Mourning? Isaiah 61:3 - “…the oil of joy instead of mourning…” Literally, “oil” speaks of the presence of the Holy Spirit. When we tap into the presence of the Holy Spirit, we have joy. Psalm 16:11 tells us that, “You will show me the path of life; in your Presence is fullness of joy; at your right Hand are pleasures forevermore.” When the Holy Spirit fills your heart, depression can leave your life.
Getting In Touch With The Holy Spirit is the key to joy:
Psalm 4:6-8 The Psalmist was full of joy in the Spirit…
Luke 10:21 Jesus was full of joy through the Holy Spirit…
Acts 13:52 The disciples were filled with joy & the Holy Spirit…
Romans 14:17 The Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit!
Ephesians 5:18-20 Joy in the Holy Spirit an alternative to wine!
Galatians 5:22 Joy is a fruit of the Spirit!

7) Get

THEY Will Be Called Oaks Of Righteousness

THEY Will Be Called Oaks Of Righteousness Isaiah 61:1-3:
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor. 4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities…”
Isolation leads to depression, while community leads to completion.
