We Bring Life: Eternal Life - Message Study Questions

Message Summary

In each season of our lives, our concerns shift from wanting to both fit in and stand out in our early years, to success in our middle years, to quality of life for seniors. However, Jesus is in every season trying to get our attention. Because God created us in His image for a purpose, He loves us and wants to have a relationship with us. Therefore, no matter the season, we are always pressing into the eternal. Is there a God? Can that God be known? Does my life matter to God? The answers to those questions are found in the Bible, in the person of Jesus Christ. And the answer is a resounding yes!
Jesus lived a sinless life. Then, as a young man, He was hung on a cross and died a criminal’s death and was buried. But He was raised to life again three days later, proving He is Lord. He came to do what he said he would do—to pay for all of our sins, past, present and future, and purchase a place for us in heaven. He came, God in the flesh, to reveal God the Father through God the Holy Spirit.

  1. Does your life matter? Why?

  2. Do you have an assurance that everything will ultimately be Okay? Why or why not?

  3. Do you believe? If not, what will it take for you to believe?

Consider This

God created you for a purpose, and that purpose is to love you and have a relationship with you. But that relationship is broken by sin, that is, our selfishness and disobedience. Jesus made the way to have that relationship restored. All we have to do is admit our need—confess and believe. Read John 11:17-46.

  1. Did Jesus love Lazarus? (see verses 3, 5, 33, 36)

  2. Why didn’t Jesus immediately go to Lazarus? (see verses 4, 42-44)

  3. What was the first thing Martha said to Jesus when he arrived (see John 11:21-22)?

    • How did she respond to her disappointment in verse 22?

    • What can you learn from Martha on how to handle disappointment with God?

  4. What can you learn about the person and power of Jesus from His response to Martha in verse 26-27? How does this make you feel? How did Martha respond? (verses 27-28)

  5. How did Mary respond to Jesus in verse 32?

  6. Read John 20:1-21 and list the evidence for Jesus’ resurrection. Who is the other disciple?

  7. Read John 20-24-29. What additional evidence did Jesus offer to Thomas?

  8. Why did Thomas say to Jesus, “My Lord and my God!” (verse 28)? Who did Thomas believe Jesus to be?

  9. Jesus says blessed are those who believe and have never seen him face to face or touched his hands (v 29).

    • Have you ever seen supernatural miracles? How does that affect your faith? Are you sometimes tempted to forget them or explain them away?

    • If you haven’t seen a supernatural miracle, what does this passage about Thomas tell you about your faith?

Moving Forward—Application

  1. When you sin against God, do you confess your sins directly to Him, repent, and seek His forgiveness, or do you try to hide your sins

  2. How can you prepare this week for times when you may have doubts about your faith in Jesus God?

  3. Do you have a knowledgeable believer in your life with whom you can talk about your doubts with? If not, how can you find one?

  4. Jesus said, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21). How could you use the Gospel of John to share your faith with another person this week?

  5. Read Colossians 4:2-6. Will you pray that prayer for you this week?
