The Transformation Two-Step

Luke 6:43-49

That bad habit. Those sudden bursts of anger. Those unquenchable desires. Those secret sins. We all have them, and we all know God wants to set us free from them. So why isn’t it happening? Why can’t I seem to change from who I am into who God wants me to be? In this passage, Jesus presents us with two different images that show us how God works to transform His people from the inside out.

Step 1:

Change on the inside– Luke 6:43-45

We can never hide the EVIL in our HEART
We can never be changed from the OUTSIDE IN
We can never be transformed by the power of OUR EFFORT
(Romans 12:1-2)

Step 2:

Change on the outside – Luke 6:46-49

We must always declare that JESUS IS LORD
We must always know what JESUS IS SAYING
We must always do as JESUS DIRECTS
