Praying Meaningful Prayers to the Living God

FIVE TYPES OF PRAYERS PEOPLE PRAY

1. Crisis prayers

2. Gimmie prayers

3. Sorry prayers

4. Squirrel prayers

5. Scripted prayers

“Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who art in heaven, holy is Your name.” - Matthew 6:9

18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. - Ephesians 5:18-20

The purpose of prayer is to connect your heart to the heart of God. This takes faith to believe that God is real and active in your life.

1 Lord, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me! 2 Many are saying of me, “God will not deliver him.” 3 But you, Lord, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high. 4 I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain. 5 I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. 6 I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side. 7 Arise, Lord! Deliver me, my God! Strike all my enemies on the jaw; break the teeth of the wicked. 8 From the Lord comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. Psalm 3:1-8

HOW TO SEE GOD’S PROVISION OR DIRECTION

1. Discern where the peace of God is.

2. When you pray, be open to a third option.

Lord, search my heart, show me your ways, and use me for your glory.
