The God Who Makes Himself Known (Exodus 18) by Pastor Daron

“Wear yourselves out” means to become useless or fade. The root word is the same as “corpse.”

Contrast Exodus 18:18 with Exodus 17:12. “Grew weary” and “heavy” are the same word. In one case, he has someone to help him. In the other, he’s trying to do it alone.

Elders have been mentioned six times in Exodus already. They have four qualities:
1. Able
2. Fear God
3. Pursue truth
4. Hate dishonesty

Sharing the burden makes it easier for yourself and it is better for the people.

Moses clings to the responsibility because he doesn’t want to disappoint people. In reality, it is not beneficial for him or the people.

The components of Moses’ story:
1. All the Lord did to Pharoah
2. The hardships he faced
3. How God delivered
Who in your life needs to know what God has done for you?

This story was too great and unexplainable apart from the intervention of a divine, powerful being.

This is another fulfillment of God’s ultimate goal: that other nations would know Him.

In response, Jethro began to worship God and ate a covenant meal with Moses and the leaders. (vs. 12)
