The Good Life: Heart
Core 52 Chapter: 19
Matthew 5:20
20 “But I warn you—unless your righteousness is better than the righteousness of the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven!
You have heard it said… —> But I tell you…
Don’t murder —> Don’t be angry
Don’t commit adultery —> Don’t lust
A man can easily divorce his wife if she doesn’t please him. —> Only divorce if wife is unfaithful
Don’t break a vow —> Don’t make a vow. Mean what you say
Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth —> Turn the other cheek, go the extra mile, give the shirt off your back
Love your neighbor —> Love your enemy
Matthew 23:27-28
27 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity. 28 Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.
The good life starts in your
Ephesians 3:16-18
16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. 18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
