Sermon Title: What is Freedom For?
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, 10:23-11:1
Church Calendar Season: Pentecost

Respond to Worship Questions:

Consider what is being said today about personal freedoms and individual rights. What are the rights and freedoms being defended?

What might Paul think about the kinds of rights and freedoms being discussed today? How would “considering others more important than ourselves” shape these discussions?

Look for an opportunity today to look not to your own interests, but first to the interests and to the good of others. What would you have to give up? What would you have to embrace?

Kid’s Conversation Starters:

Talk about two friends that you have who may not yet know Jesus. How are they the same and how different?

Could you tell them about Jesus? How would each friend “hear” or “see” best? What would you need to do so that they would be open to knowing more about Jesus?

Prayer for the Week

O Lord our God, listening to us here,
you accept also the prayers of our sisters and brothers
in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, the Americas, and Europe.
We are all one in prayer. So may we, as one,
rightly carry out your commission to witness and to love
in the church and throughout the world.
Accept our prayers graciously, even when they are somewhat strange.
We offer them in Jesus’ name. Amen.
