The Believers of the Church (Titus 2:1-10)

Believers believe the right things.

Believers live godly lives.

Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works. —Titus 2:7

Our beliefs impact how we behave.

The God of Creation Appeared

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people. —Titus 2:11

Leave, Live, Look

Believers Leave Ungodliness

training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. —Titus 2:12

God Trains Us

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age. —Titus 2:11-12

The grace of God teaches His children to leave, live and look.

Believers Live Sensibly

My son, do not forget my teaching [my training], But let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of life and peace will be will be added to you. —Proverbs 3:1-2

Life is better and safe when we live sensibly.

Believers Look Ahead

The Appearing of Jesus’s Return

waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. —Titus 2:13

Hope is an eager expectation.

Our Bedrock Truth

who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. —Titus 2:14

Christ redeemed us from lawless deeds to purify us for good deeds.

Paul doesn’t think salvation can be separated from a godly life.

Christ had to deal with what you didn’t do and what you did do.

who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. —Titus 2:14

Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you. —Titus 2:15

Don’t let anyone go around you. There’s a standard.

Big Idea:

The grace of God teaches us to leave wickedness, live upright & look to Jesus’s return.

• How does the return of Jesus help encourage believers to live upright, godly lives? Why do you think he includes the second coming?

• How does it feel to know that you are God’s possession? You aren’t merely forgiven, but possessed by Him. How does this idea play a role in your sanctification (i.e. becoming more like Jesus)?
