Stuff Jesus Never Said: What Goes Around Comes Around
Pastor Peter Gowesky
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. —John 1:17
3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” —John 8:3-5
22 If a man is found sleeping with another man’s wife, both the man who slept with her and the woman must die. —Deuteronomy 22:22
6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. —John 8:6
PT. 1 WE’RE MOST CRITICAL OF WHAT WE STRUGGLE WITH THE LEAST.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. —John 8:6-8
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. —John 8:9
27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ 28 But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. —Matthew 5:27-28
10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. —John 8:10-11
PT. 2
All that passing laws against sin did was produce more lawbreakers. But sin didn’t, and doesn’t, have a chance in competition with the aggressive forgiveness we call grace. When it’s sin versus grace, grace wins hands down. All sin can do is threaten us with death, and that’s the end of it. Grace, because God is putting everything together again through the Messiah, invites us into life—a life that goes on and on and on, world without end. —Romans 5:20-21 MSG
God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. —Ephesians 2:8-9
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. —Matthew 5:38-42
WHO IS GOD ASKING YOU TO GIVE GRACE TO?
