The Lord's Prayer
Motives + Methods

Be Real Together:

Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DNA, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DNA share their story.

Read Together:

Matthew 6:9-13 CSB
9 Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Grow Together: Observe and Apply

“Jesus’s resurrection is the beginning of God’s new project not to snatch people away from earth to heaven but to colonize earth with the life of heaven. That, after all, is what the Lord’s Prayer is about.” -N.T. Wright

This week, Jeff Price showed us how the Lord’s prayer should be used as our guide to our daily walk and conversations with Jesus. Here are six ways he explained this:

1. Keep a daily, on-going conversation with God.
2. Align your life with God’s purpose and plan for you.
3. Ask Him to provide your daily needs.
4. Ask for forgiveness daily.
5. Ask God to help you make wise decisions.
6. End your day with an encouraging truth.

  • Who taught you how to pray and how did they teach you to pray? What kind of relationship have you had with prayer throughout your life because of this?

  • Open up to your group about what role prayer plays in your life at the moment (i.e. What it looks like currently? What’s your motivation for praying? What you would like to improve upon?).

  • It can be daunting to think of six tasks to incorporate into your everyday life, but it can also be done. Do you already do any of these six things? How can you begin to incorporate AT LEAST one of the six methods you don’t already use into your day?

Pray Together:

Our Father in heaven, holy is Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Amen.
