Have you ever been fishing? What was the experience like? Have you ever been afraid in a boat before?

Sermon Notes
The message this week was about the boat in the storm with Jesus and the disciples. If you’d like, read the story again in Mark 4:35-41.
Scotty talked about three types of storms that we might face: circumstantial, emotional, and spiritual. Sometimes it is all three. “It’s in the midst of our emotional distress, over circumstances we can’t change, that we begin to question what we believe to be true about Jesus.”
Jesus is in the boat with us and is stronger than any storm we might face.

Discuss
1. Did anything from the sermon stick out or did you have any questions?
2. Tell about a storm that you have been through before—circumstantial, emotional, and/or spiritual. Did you feel like Jesus was with you in the boat during the storm? What about after it was over?
3. Scotty said that it is only in the waves that we can learn who the waves obey. What does that mean to you?
4. If you are a believer, then Jesus is always “in your boat.” If this is true, why do we sometimes behave like he isn’t with us when we are faced with a storm?
5. Is there an area of your life where you are not trusting Jesus? This can be a very vulnerable question. Remember that your group is a confidential, safe place. Sharing means that you can pray for and support each other.
