God Remains
Review:
• This has been a true story with implications for all time
• Who God is –How He sees us
• What we need –and He is willing to give 1 Corinthians 10:1–11 (NIV)
Lessons learned in this series:
1. Gods perspective: There is something wrong with all of us –What is it?
Only a covenant with Him can remedy it – He alone can save - will we allow it?
• Sin has contaminated us personally and the world we live in
• We have become slaves to sin – ideologies –false Gods –bad kings (internal and external)
• Left to ourselves there is no Remedy but God wants to save us
• We need a Savior who is willing and able to rescue us
• He is the initiator – the pursuer – the stable one –without variation –sustainer
2. God wants to save us from a life of slavery so we can have a relationship with Him. Set free from, and set free for:
A. His presence—tabernacle– in the middle of our camp –Exodus 25:8 (NIV) — 8 “Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them.
B. His leadership (a good King) -We need God to lead us – our compass is broken
• Fire and cloud
• The commands of God for living
C. His supply – daily bread and living water – physical and spiritual needs are only met in and with Him
Numbers 2:17 (NIV).
Exodus 13:20–22 (NIV) — 20 After leaving Sukkoth they camped at Etham on the edge of the desert. 21 By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. 22 Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people.
He thinks we need daily bread- we need His presence –His food provides strength;
Exodus 16:21–22 (NIV) — 21 Each morning everyone gathered as much as they needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away. 22 On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much—two omers for each person—and the leaders of the community came and reported this to Moses.
Deuteronomy 8:1–5 (NIV) Matthew 6:9–15 (NIV)
Matthew 4:4 (NIV) — 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
3. He wants to give us a purpose Exodus 19:3
4. He reveals we will need to trust Him if we are to have any of what He wants to give us
• The problem in the garden – our own minds are not enough –we must trust Him
• When He leads us into what we think is a trap
• When He is on the mountain too long in our view
• When there is no water or food I can see
• He sees the enemy working even when we can’t
5. Even though most of those who He chose fell by the wayside –He remained faithful to those who walked with Him –He is a pursuing God
Exodus 34:5–7 (NIV) 2 Timothy 2:11–13 (NIV)
The New Testament parallel –a remaining/abiding God
• All of this is a picture of abiding as the New Testament reveals it. John 15:1–8 (NIV)
• We have been saved (if we are disciples of Jesus)
• We have our journey
• We have a purpose
• Will we remain –
For discussion with your small group, family and friends.
