NEXT WEEK: Hope for Exiles: A Study of 1 Peter, 1 Peter 4:1-11

SMALL GROUP GUIDE

  • Weekly Vision Casting: One of the key ingredients of small groups at Trinity is a Biblical foundation. How can we maintain a biblical foundation as a group?
  • Opening Prayer
  • Small Group Guidelines (if necessary)
  • Warm Up Question
  • Head, Heart, and Hand Questions
  • Personal Prayer Requests
  • SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS

WARM UP: Have everyone write their name on a piece of paper with their off hand. Vote on best and worst handwriting. Why is it hard to write with your off hand? [In 1 Peter 3:8-22 we are called to live in a way that doesn’t line up with our natural fleshly desires]

HEAD: These questions help us examine the Word.
    1. Read 1 Peter 2:11-12. These verses provide the context for our passage today. What do these verses tell us about the world we live in? Why is it difficult for us to live as exiles?
    2. Read 1 Peter 3:8-22. These verses tell us how we can live in a hostile world and cause people to give glory to God. In verse 8, Peter focuses on our relationships with each other. Why does Peter talk first about our relationships with each other before talking about our relationships with those outside the church?
    3. 1 Peter 3:14 & 17 tell us to only suffer for righteous reasons. What are some examples of righteous reasons for a Christian to suffer? Unrighteous reasons?

HEART: These questions help us wrestle with what we believe.
    4. Have you had someone recently ask you “for a reason for the hope that is in you”? If not, why not?
    5. How ready do you think you are to defend your faith?
    6. How does Jesus’ victory (verses 18-22) give us strength as we seek to live as exiles?

HAND: These questions help us bring truth and beliefs into our everyday life.
    7. In what way is God calling you to “be devoted to what is good”?
    8. What do you think you need to do to be more ready to defend your faith?
    9. Who would you love to see giving glory to God because of your life?
